COMMUNITY AMENITIES FUND $53,400
The Waipuna Hospice is a voluntary organisation which provides palliative care services and support to patients and families coping with terminal illness. Since the $3 million upgrade to the facility in 2006, the general population growth in the region and the increased ageing population have placed greater demand upon hospice services.
With an expanding nursing team, it was evident that significant ambient noise from the nurses talking to patients and families by phone was impacting on the ability of the nursing team to communicate to a patient population that is largely elderly with significant hearing difficulties. These factors necessitated the redesign of the community nursing office. The Hospice applied to TECT for funding towards the redevelopment of the community nursing stations and laundry additions. TECT’s $53,400 to the Waipuna Hospice is another way the Trust has demonstrated its commitment to helping the community in a positive way.
"The redevelopment has greatly enhanced the systems and working environment for Waipuna Hospice staff. It has also increased the ability of Waipuna Hospice to care for more patients."
