Acorn Foundation

"Encouraging Giving for the Western BOP"

The Acorn Foundation enables generous people to make a bigger impact in their communities by investing in donations and distributing the returns to causes close to their hearts, year after year. In 2023, Acorn distributed over $3.3M to more than 200 charitable groups throughout the Western Bay of Plenty community. To find out how to apply for Acorn Foundation funding, visit their website.

Akarana Community Trust

Akarana welcomes grant applications from a wide range of non-profit organisations. The Trust is a major supporter of amateur sport, and supports programmes such as breakfasts for children in low-decile schools. Akarana is committed to making high-quality, local grants that support general community, cultural, and religious causes. Their current venue is based in the Welcome Bay area.

ANZ New Zealand Staff Foundation

The foundation supports charitable organisations whose work fulfils one or more of the following purposes: to assist in the promotion of financial literacy; to provide opportunities for all New Zealanders to achieve economic and social independence; to provide access to learning opportunities that prepare people for meaningful work and a high quality of life; to assist people working together to create viable and secure communities; to assist to conserve New Zealand's natural and historical resources.

Ara Taiohi (Youth Week Grants)

Youth Week is about recognising the amazing contributions and achievements of young people in New Zealand.  The week inspires Ara Taiohi to value, support, and affirm the diversity of young people in our society. Ultimately Ara Taiohi want Aotearoa/ New Zealand to be a country where young people are vibrant and optimistic through being supported and encouraged to take up challenges. The Youth Week Grants support activities held during the annual Youth Week and Ara Taiohi can only offer grants when they receive funding from the government.

BayTrust will consider grants for organisations and projects which help to accelerate bold meaningful change, assisting BOP communities and the environment to flourish. These initiatives and entities should align with BayTrust's Strategic Outcome areas, encompassing one or more of the following:

  1. Katiakitanga - Empowering community-led environmental initiatives.

  2. Community Well-being - Supporting initiatives that foster equitable, vibrant, fun and secure communities.

  3. Healthy, Secure and Affordable Housing - Promoting community-based solutions to address substandard housing and mitigate the challenges posed by the lack of affordable housing.

  4. Tū Māori Mai - Supporting Māori communities in the Bay of Plenty to achieve their aspirations and enable their whanau and the broader community to forge a prosperous future for themselves, the natural world (Te Taiao) and the Māori world (Te Ao Māori).

Bay of Plenty Regional Council

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council's Environmental Enhancement Fund provides seed funding for community-based environment projects in the Bay of Plenty. Applications open on July 1st each year.

Canon Oceania Grants - Inspiring Tomorrow

This programme supports schools and not-for-profit groups who are addressing both social and environmental issues in their community and inspiring change for future generations.  Canon are offering eight grants worth of Canon equipment in-kind across Australia and New Zealand.

Creative New Zealand

Creative NZ Fund across a range of different activities within the arts.  These are activities that will deliver results that will achieve the long term goals of Creative New Zealand.

Creative Communities Arts Funding Scheme - this scheme is for Arts based initiatives and programmes.

Department of Internal Affairs

Funding opportunities are accessible for individuals, organisations, communities, hapū, and iwi, managed by Te Tari Taiwhenua, the Department of Internal Affairs' Hāpai Hapori (Community Operations) branch.

Our services aim to support robust, sustainable communities, hapū, and iwi within Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Four Winds Foundation

Funds are available for any charitable, philanthropic, cultural or sporting purpose that provides a benefit to the local community.

Frozen Funds Charitable Trust

The purpose of the Frozen Funds Charitable Trust is to provide grants for projects run by, and for, people who use mental health or intellectual disability services.

Grassroots Trust

Grassroots Trust is dedicated to providing local funding to local communities.

We share your passion and enthusiasm for amateur sport, education and various charitable community initiatives and we're here to help.

Great care is taken to ensure funds granted are well used and for the authorised purpose, and many local communities have already benefited from a Grassroots Trust grant. Grassroots Trust operates in accordance with the Gambling Act 2003 and is regulated by The Department of Internal Affairs.

Harcourts Foundation

The Harcourts Foundation - the charitable arm of Harcourts continues to support our communities.  Since its launch in 2008, the Harcourts Foundation has raised in excess of  $8m.  Community groups and crisis funds have benefitted from the Harcourts network generosity.

iSport Foundation

The iSport Foundation has three initiatives that address well-being and reduce barriers to sport and physical activity. Their SPORTME TOO initiative supports young individuals who are experiencing extreme financial hardship and have not had the opportunity to be involved in a season of sport due to the cost of participation.

JR McKenzie Trust

J R McKenzie Trust's overall priority is "advancing equity" - addressing underlying causes of inequity and exclusion. The trust funds organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand with a focus on their key communities of interest, which are Children, Young People and Whānau, Māori, Pacific Peoples and Communities that experience exclusion.

Kiwi Gaming Foundation

Kiwi Gaming Foundation (under its original name, Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Trust or CERT for short) was established in 2011 to assist with the Christchurch rebuild. The Foundation’s focus is now on supporting amateur sport, education, arts and culture, and other community initiatives. Their current venue is based in Maungatapu.

Legacy Trust

Legacy Trust is a registered charitable trust and the owner of Legacy Funerals Tauranga and other funeral business interests. The Trust is responsible for the management of the business operations and the annual distribution of all profits from the business for the good of the local community.

Lindsay Foundation

The Lindsay Foundation’s mission is to support Kiwi individuals and organisations who aspire to make a positive difference in New Zealand, with a focus on the areas of animal welfare, children, disabilities and health.

The Lion Foundation

The Lion Foundation’s purpose is to help good causes all around New Zealand. As a Charitable Trust, they grant millions of dollars every year to a huge range of clubs, charities and community groups from large to small, in areas as diverse as health, education, sports, arts and culture.

​Lottery Community Grants Board

Lottery Community grants are available for not-for-profit organisations with a community or social service focus for ongoing operating costs or projects which help improve the quality of people’s lives in their communities.

Lottery Community Facilities provides grants to improve or build new community facilities, or for feasibility studies to work out if plans to improve or build community facilities can be achieved and will benefit the community.

Mazda Foundation Trust

Grants are targeted to the natural environment, arts and culture, education, employment skills.  They have three funding rounds per year: 31 March, 30 June, 30 September.

Ministry for Ethnic Communities

The Ethnic Communities Development Fund has $4.2 million a year available for projects that support ethnic communities to grow their skills, celebrate their culture, and take part in society.

Ministry for Pacific Peoples

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples is the Crown's principal advisor on policies and interventions aimed at improving outcomes for Pacific peoples in Aotearoa. By using our extensive networks with Pacific communities across the country, as well as our knowledge and understanding of Pacific people, cultures, and values, we influence public policy, programme and service decisions affecting Pacific Aotearoa. There is a range of funding available for Pacific communities, youth, and established providers.

Ministry of Youth Development

The Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) – Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi – spends around $12.062 million (excluding the Ākonga Youth Development Community Fund) per year on a wide range of youth development and youth enterprise initiatives. We fund organisations that employ a youth development approach which supports the wellbeing of young people (aged 12 to 24 years) in Aotearoa New Zealand.

New Horizons for Women Trust

The New Horizons for Women Trust: Hine Kahukura supports education, innovation and research that benefits women. We do this through an annual grants award programme for women in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT)

Kiwi’s love their sport, the NZCT loves to help them enjoy & participate in their sporting passions,  NZCT is excited about the difference it makes to sporting organizations across the country, whether it’s a school group or adult team, a national sports body or elite competitor, the NZCT helps New Zealander’s of all ages & abilities to take part in sport. 80% amateur sport funded.

NZ Racing Board

Funding is available to encourage active participation in New Zealand Amateur sports.

​Perpetual Guardian

On behalf of its clients, Perpetual Guardian stewards between $20 million and $40 million to charitable purposes every year – mainly in New Zealand. As a highly respected Trustee company with origins going back 135 years and charitable entities that are over 100 years old, philanthropy has always played a key part in the company’s business model. Perpetual Guardian manages almost 600 charitable entities, which, together with Givealittle, has become the largest portfolio of charitable entities and giving in New Zealand.

Pub Charity

Pub Charity's focus is on supporting communities all over NZ. They make a huge difference to a wide range of local causes each year by returning millions of dollars in gaming machine proceeds to NZ communities.

Rotary Club of Tauranga

The Rotary Club of Tauranga continues its strong tradition of community service.

​Southern Stars is a Charitable Trust

Southern Stars is a Charitable Trust that is dedicated to providing a better life for special needs and disadvantaged children in New Zealand.

Sport New Zealand

Sport New Zealand is a kaitiaki (guardian) of the play, active recreation and sport system in Aotearoa New Zealand.

It promotes and supports quality experiences in play, active recreation and sport to improve levels of physical activity and, through this, ensure the greatest impact on wellbeing for all New Zealanders.

Tauranga City Council

Tauranga City Council is committed to supporting innovative and resilient communities through its Community Development Match Fund, and to fostering our vibrant events environment through the Event Funding Framework.

The Community Development Match Fund helps groups deliver neighbourhood projects that help build strong, innovative and vibrant communities. Small Match Fund Grants of up to $1000 can be applied for at any time, and Medium Match Fund grants (up to $10,000) are considered twice per year.  Visit the TCC website for more information.

The purpose of the Event Funding Framework is to provide financial support to events that champion our funding 'values' and 'priorities' via the Community Event Fund, Event Support Fund and Major Events Fund. 

Tindall Foundation

The Tindall Foundation is a philanthropic family trust established in 1995 by Stephen and Margaret Tindall that seeks opportunities to support innovative, forward-thinking initiatives that make a positive difference for Aotearoa New Zealand, in areas of Whānau/Family, Community and Environment.

We Care Community Trust

We Care gives priority to grant applicants based in the cities where its gaming venues are located. They make grants for education, community cultural and arts festival, public amenities, sports facilities, amateur sports, and other charitable and non-charitable purposes beneficial to the community.

Western Bay of Plenty (WBOP) District Council

The main aim of the fund is to offer support to organisations and individuals with an activity or project that fits with Council’s long term plan and that benefits the residents and ratepayers of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council. Priority will be given to specific community based projects and community groups or individuals who are planning such projects. TECT, in partnership with the Western Bay of Plenty District Council, contributed funding to the Katikati Action Centre and TECT Park.

Wilson Home Trust

The trust provides a range of support for children with physical disabilities.  They also actively collaborate with a range of health, education and community organisations that provide services for children with disabilities.

Youthtown Trust

Youthtown is one of New Zealand's oldest and most respected not-for-profit organisations. They have a proud history of developing and supporting young people through programmes across the country.

Some of this work is made possible through a network of New Zealand gaming venues. Net proceeds from gaming machines operated at those venues pledging support to Youthtown are then distributed to make positive youth development a reality in communities nationwide.
