It’s election time again for TECT, with three of the Trust’s six trustees required to retire by rotation this year.
TECT Community Trust (TECT) is a community funder which provides support for local initiatives, facilities and events that bring vibrancy, connectedness, growth and economic benefits to the region.
At over $1 billion, TECT’s asset base is among the largest held by any community trust in New Zealand. Approximately 80% of TECT’s assets are held in a diversified portfolio, including a range of national and international investments. The remainder is made up of a significant shareholding in Infratil. Returns from those investments have supported TECT’s impact to be transformational for the local community for over 30 years. Having distributed over $228 million in grants since 1993 and most recently distributed $26.3 million through 316 grants in the last financial year.
The Trust has again appointed Warwick Lampp from electionz.com Ltd as its independent returning officer to manage the election process. “The TECT election usually draws a lot of interest from aspiring candidates and we’re expecting that same level of interest this year. TECT has had a major influence in community projects within the Western BOP area over the past 30 years and management of the Trust fund in the current environment will be very important,” said Mr Lampp.
The trustees retiring by rotation this year are Kate Barry-Piceno, Mark Arundel and Peter Blackwell, all of whom can re-stand if they wish. Peter Blackwell has confirmed that he will not be re-standing. To stand as a candidate, individuals must be on the Electoral Roll within the TECT district (Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council ares) and be nominated by two separate electors also from the TECT district. Each candidate needs to provide a brief candidate profile and a recent photo as part of the nomination process.
The nomination period is now open and closes at midday on Friday 28 August. Nominations can be completed online at www.tect.org.nz.
To find out more about TECT and what is involved in being a trustee, a candidate information meeting is being held 6pm on Wednesday 19 August at the TECT office, The Kollective, 17th Avenue, Tauranga.
If more than three nominations are received an election will be carried out by online voting only again this year, there will not be any postal voting. Voting packs will be mailed out to approximately 152,000 eligible voters from Friday 25 September with online voting closing at midday on Friday 23 October.
